Living consciously is, perhaps, nigh on impossible in today’s digital age. It’s hard not to notice that technology has advanced tremendously in the past 100 years or so.
Since entering into the 21st century almost a decade ago, the age of communication has risen phenomenally and has, at the same time, made the planet a smaller place in terms of networking with other human beings in every part of the globe.
What troubles me is that most of us have become all so dependent on technology for everyday tasks (well, I’m typing this blog on a computer, aren’t I), as well as allowing it to affect our emotional state detrimentally if it dares go wrong – as I have witnessed many a time happen to staff members at my workplace.
The thing I’ve observed is that we have allowed our own consciousness to be superceded by this technology, something that in the long run, I feel, will do us more harm than good.
Since starting this blog, I have found it rather difficult to read (oddly enough, something that I usually love to do) a good book for any particular length of time. My observations are, that the less I read the more creative in my writing I become.
It is also no accident to discover that through this much needed postponement of accumulating knowledge through reading, I seem to be able to produce creative thoughts much easier. This has enabled me to come up with fresh ideas of what to write on this blog, which I hope will guide you towards learning about yourselves.
The surprising thing about writing this blog is that, so far, it has become somewhat therapeutic for me and has taught me to think for myself once more. Sometimes you can get caught into a trap of sensory overload through trying to stuff your head with every information you can find that you deem useful for your personal development in life.
This is a continuation of the “Use Stoic Philosophy To Learn Self Help Anger Management” and the last in the series. The first post in the series can be found here.
What is Anger?
I’m sure every human being has experienced anger one way or the other in their life because it seems to be hard-wired into our DNA. Anything can trigger this emotion to swell within and then explode into rage. Some people can tame it before it gets too out of control; some can manage it and turn it into something positive; but some people do not possess the presence of mind to be able to deal with anger at all.
For those of you who cannot put out the fire of anger before it runs wild, you must learn to use your minds as extinguishers to fight anger and then put it out for good.
Seneca’s & Plutarch’s Stoic Philosophy against Anger
I have personally learned a lot about self help anger management by reading ancient philosophy from the great thinkers, who purported to know the answers towards dampening the fires of Man’s failing grace – anger.
So let me begin with the Stoics who fall into the category above. Lucius Annaeus Seneca and Plutarch, who wrote essays about the importance of being aware of the dangers and effects of anger. Both men agreed that if left untreated, anger can do irreparable damage to the mind, spirit and relationships.
Oh Man! You guys out there must have done something pretty special to have pleased me recently, as I’m still feeling mighty generous (but not for long – *reverts back into Ebenezer Scrooge mode*) since the last post.
I came across a useful ebook the other day on, SelfGrowth.com which is a site that I post self-improvement articles to from time to time. The ebook in question is entitled, How to Survive and Thrive During Our Economic Crisis.
This particular book contains wise financial crisis tips and advice on how you can live relatively stress-free and comfortably whilst cutting back on the things that are not a necessity. This is relevant for me because since the arrival of our little boy last year it’s been a bit of a struggle and we have had to watch the pennies coming in and going out religiously.
We didn’t even get to go away this summer for a break. But to be honest with you, a holiday is definitely not at the top of my list of things to spend money on, especially when you have a baby requiring food, nappies and shelter.
Well, I just like to reward you guys for all the support you have given me so far by sharing with you this free self-help ebook. Yeah, it’s not much, but that’s all I can afford at the moment – sorry. Hopefully this book can provide you with the practical wisdom and a philosophical outlook towards managing any financial difficulties of your own.
Thanks again for visiting and commenting on this other attention seeking baby of mine.
