Great points! To add to this, a lot of external factors add to our self-knowledge. For instance, when I see someone acting a fool in public, I know that I would never behave in such manner. Or, when I see someone worship another person (an actual human), I know that I would never do such. By seeing certain things, we gain knowledge of ourselves by knowing that we are not likely to do the same. It may be for whatever reason but it goes back to knowing what I like, my views, who I am etc...

Thanks once again for commenting, Ali!

Again, to me, self-knowledge is the greatest knowledge that anyone can attain, which ironically, is not actual knowledge at all. All it is is self-understanding, common sense, intuition and wisdom, which doesn't equate accumalting general information in the mind that can be recalled if and when you need to.

Self-knowledge is with you always from now until you are dead - and more importantly, it doesn't fill the mind and require the function of memory.

Questions one may ask themself:

Who am I?
How am I to live righteously?
How am I to be true to myself and others?
How do I live a happy and contented life?
How can I improve myself and solve the many issues that affect me?

Answer to all: self-knowledge

It must be important then.

Wow....this article is full of jewels!

Our ideologies are so aligned that it is ridiculous. I'm glad I stumbled upon your site when I did.

Knowledge of self is soooooooo important. People need to be a little more selfish. Find out who you are and not what you pretend to be. You are so correct, you can not work on your "cons" if you do not have some knowledge of self.

I look forward to getting to know you more than what I do already pal. You're one of the good ones!

Peaces!

Self realization is a power acknowledgment to who you are. Not who you think you are though the eyes of your friends, but who you are as a person. Its about knowing who you are, which leads to self understanding for why you do the things you do.

Great Post!

Studying our own actions and reactions is the key to happiness. How do we make ourselves angry? How do we make ourselves sad? How do we make ourselves afraid? Once you understand the steps involved in this process you can move in another direction.

Yes Patrick, you are quite correct!

If we all had some self-knowledge we would be able to deal with inner problems before they actually take root.

Cheers!
