I came across an amazing site long ago whilst searching for websites on the subjects of “truth, knowledge and wisdom”.
Here is a short biography on the man who is responsible for the aforementioned site:
Sanderson Beck was born March 5, 1947 in Los Angeles. He earned a B.A. in Dramatic Art from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.A. in Religious Studies from U.C. Santa Barbara, Ph.D. candidacy in the Philosophy of Education from U.C.L.A., and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the World University. He was a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War. In 1982 he formulated World Peace Movement Principles, Purposes, and Methods, and in 1987 he traveled to 47 states and met with 600 peace groups to promote peace and disarmament. He has been arrested many times for nonviolently protesting nuclear weapons and military intervention and in 1989 was imprisoned for six months. Sanderson has taught Philosophy and many other subjects at the World University since 1976.
On September 1, 2001 World Peace Communications was incorporated as a nonprofit organization for educational, literary, and charitable purposes. Sanderson’s versions of the Wisdom Classics have been published as the WISDOM BIBLE in 2002. Sanderson published the Nonviolent Action Handbook and GUIDES TO PEACE AND JUSTICE in 2003. He became an official candidate for President of the United States in December 2002, and in May 2003 he endorsed Dennis Kucinich. The first six volumes of the ETHICS OF CIVILIZATION were published by 2005, and three more volumes were published by 2008. GUIDES TO PEACE AND JUSTICE was expanded and came out as the two-volume HISTORY OF PEACE in July 2005, followed by The Art of Gentle Living in September, BEST FOR ALL: How We Can Save the World in November, and Confucius and Socrates in 2006. In July 2008 Beck published The Good Message of Jesus the Christ, Peace or Bust, 4 Screenplays, Socrates Plays, and George Washington.
The site in question is the Literary Works of Sanderson Beck. So not only does Sanderson Beck provide huge resources of wisdom via his website, he is also a writer and peace activist – a man of many noble talents indeed.
I for one feel that Beck, who most of you would not have known about before now, should be given more exposure and recognition for his literary talents in bringing alive to this modern era ancient knowledge, history and the great thinkers of wisdom and peace.
There should also be some mention of Sanderson’s courageous efforts in his visible protests against war, violence and unjust practices carried out by the state which would have made both Gandhi and Martin Luther King proud.
Returning to Sanderson’s website and books, the knowledge that can be learned from them would fill the British Library twice over. What a great pity that this sort of knowledge is not included in the school curriculum. The world would surely benefit from children learning the true history of their origins and the great teachings of the sages who excelled in the art of living. Society may then be able produce authentic, intelligent and wise individuals who, if in the position of power, would govern this planet with wisdom and peaceful intentions, which may greatly help humanity as a whole – Plato’s Philosopher Kings indeed!
Unfortunately, and this is no criticism of Sanderson, I don’t think many people are aware of the huge amount of work and dedication Sanderson has put into imparting his knowledge into Cyberspace and in book form, not to mention his past and continued activism and protests against war, ignorance, injustices, and in particular the U.S. Government’s foreign policy.
Although I don’t know Sanderson personally, he seems to be a humble but determined individual who has a compassionate soul despite having a modest looking website. I’m just not sure if he has exploited the technology available to him to make his life’s work have a more larger impact. With a simple improvement of the design of his website, this could make it more navigational-friendly and kinder to the eyes which may help immensely towards attracting and keeping visitors on the site long enough to realise for themselves what enlightening treasures for the mind that can be unearthed.
However, this is only my own subjective viewpoint, and I maybe completely wrong on how successful Beck is in regards visitors to his site and number of books sold. For all I know, Beck may not hold any concerns in regards the number of visitors to his site or readers of his many books – perhaps his only aim is to just spread the knowledge without making a profit, no matter how many are touched by it – humility at its best.
Hopefully, by me highlighting this seemingly unknown man, who inspires the rest of us to stand up for truth against tyranny and who also teaches us the wise lessons of the ancient philosophers with his exhaustive but most important work, will spark some interest within individuals to seek the truth and beneficial knowledge which will help them to rid themselves of ignorance and to then live a more joyful, peaceful and wiser life.
There is no better place to start in your quest than the Literary Works of Sanderson Beck.
In conclusion, Sanderson definitely deserves the recognition for his pacifistic and enlightening efforts alone, so please give him your support by visiting his site Literary Works of Sanderson Beck.
Who knows – you may learn something of much worth.
Update: Sanderson Beck’s online books now available to read or buy on my Wisdom Books page.
