The Ten Wise Commandments of Moderation For Christmas and Beyond

December 16th, 2011 No comments

As much as I love the Christmas period with all the food and drink you can consume, as well as spending quality time with loved ones, there are times when it can all become a stress-filled, conflict-ridden and decadent exercise which can do more harm than good to one’s mind, body and spirit.

Everyone, I guess, is entitled to self-indulge (within reason, mind) at least once a year, but we must be careful not to enter the new year carrying too much weight, anxiety and damaged relationships.

Christmas should be a time to reinvigorate ourselves and to reconnect with friends and family who we have, directly or indirectly, long since neglected.

Surely, we’re not too busy for the important things in life?

Just to let you know that I don’t belong to any religious faith whatsoever, but felt the need to propose the following ten commandments (with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure) of my own for you to adopt towards having a happy Christmas of moderation.  So no belief in God or morality are required.

These precepts or maxims may or may not  help you to negotiate life more wisely, as well as put you in very good stead for the coming New Year and beyond.  Just remember to have fun along the way.

100 Reasons Why It’s So Great To Be A Man

November 17th, 2010 3 comments

Martin Luther King Jr. - What a great man he was but he had his weaknesses, especially that of the so-called fairer sex. No surprises there then

Warning to all females in the audience: This post is for REAL MEN ONLY!  So don’t get too upset or angry with what I’m about say in regards male greatness.  If I may also add, I’m neither a sexist nor a misogynist (buzzwords feminists love to throw about as soon as a man is comfortable with who he is and who accepts the seemingly vast differences between both sexes), I’m just a man – and proud of it!

As men, I’m proud to say that we’re everything that you women are not, so get use to it and stop trying to manipulate us into something you want us to be (i.e., a hairless, effeminate, and walking credit card of a man, whose main job on weekends is to carry the many unnecessary bags of shopping that their female partner’s heart desires).

Now, where was I…In this current climate of the emasculation of men under the guise of feminism, let me now celebrate being a male in the 21st century by sharing an inspirational list of the 100 Greatest Men of All Time (and no – that pansy, David Beckham, is definitely not on this particular top 100 list)

Learn From Man But Neither Worship Him Nor Allow Him To Enslave Your Mind – Part 1

June 8th, 2010 4 comments

Are we all too quick to worship and follow men who we have labeled as great?

Why is it such a big surprise to us when men, who are widely regarded as great, turn out to be a hypocrite, charlatan, or have so many skeletons in the closet you can hear them rattling a mile away? Why are we so shocked? Aren’t they human too despite the flattering opinions we wish to lavish on these godlike figures?

Admittedly, we can all sometimes become mesmerised and then attached to these shining examples of humanity, which can inadvertently make us forget about our own important role to play in life.

These legendary men, who in most cases take the moral high ground, can sometimes be found guilty of not practicing what they preach.

In a series of six posts, I will try to pull down the veil of perfection that protects 6 great thinkers in history, as I reveal their own, and perhaps unflattering, mortal afflictions.

The 10 Biggest Misconceptions That Prove We Don’t Need No Education

April 29th, 2010 5 comments
A child is just another brick in the wall

Are kids taught lies just for them to fit into the system?

In writing this post, the Pink Floyd song “Another Brick in the Wall” comes to mind when listening to the lyrics and analysing the meaning behind them in regards what we are taught in school.

Let’s now take a look at some of these lyrics shall we?

We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall.
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.

“Wrong, Do it again!”
“If you don’t eat yer meat, you can’t have any pudding. How can you
have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?”
“You! Yes, you behind the bike sheds, stand still laddy!”

~ “Another Brick in the Wall” from the 1979 album “The Wall”

The lyrics above should encourage us all to ask the following questions:

  • Do teachers, and the Educational System in particular, actually teach us any truth, especially in regards history and the so-called facts of life?
  • Why don’t they have the integrity to teach us truth, critical thinking skills and the art of living wisely, rather than irrelevant information that only serves to dumb us down?
  • Is there indeed a hidden conspiracy perpetrated by those in power to use the educational system as a tool of propaganda, so to serve their eventual goal of total mind-control over the masses? Read more…

The Schopenhauer Philosophy: How not to be a Grumpy Old Man Whilst Avoiding Pessimism

February 8th, 2010 11 comments

The pessimistic Schopenhauer strikes a pose

Why am I such a Miserable Old Fart?

It’s easy being pessimistic when you are a grumpy old man like me, with nothing but endless conflict, the continuing economic crisis, and Mayan predictions of something terrible to come.

So all I can see in front of me is the impending march of doom.  For every minute the clock passes, brings me ever more closer to extinction.

This awareness of my own mortality brings with it cynicism, as I cast envious eyes over the world that I will soon no doubt leave. For vengeance I wish nothing but misery for the rest of you poor souls who will remain in this apparent  existence of suffering.

But then again, why would I want to spend anymore time here being tortured by this miserable and superficial planet anyway, with its competitively violent human beings and their ignorant ways – maybe I am the fortunate one. Read more…
