Spend Time With Your Kids and Not Just Your Money

September 15th, 2011 No comments

As I have already written in the posts A Philosopher As Parent (Part 1) – Stefan Molyneux and A Philosopher As Parent (Part 2) – Ten Commandments to Parenting Wisely being a parent is a tremendous challenge because of the demands of  needing to be there for our children and also being wise in how we choose to guide their first precarious steps in life.

So I share with you (especially parents) a pertinent BBC article which suggests, perhaps rightly, that we should spend more time with our children rather than just buying them material goods (mostly purchased through guilt of not being with them enough to begin with).

I agree, because not only does it teach the children the wrong values about who they are (they will end up treating the goods as being more important than themselves), it can also inadvertently produce a bunch of spoilt, materialistic brats who will probably end up respecting designer labels more than the parents.

However, one cannot blame the parents entirely for this sad state of affairs.  We need to look, as a whole, at the society in which we live.  I think in most households, parents would love nothing more than to spend quality time with their kids, as I’m sure they know it would produce a more positive and healthy effect on both the child’s general well-being, and growth of both mind and spirit.

Martin Luther King Jr. - What a great man he was but he had his weaknesses, especially that of the so-called fairer sex. No surprises there then

Warning to all females in the audience: This post is for REAL MEN ONLY!  So don’t get too upset or angry with what I’m about say in regards male greatness.  If I may also add, I’m neither a sexist nor a misogynist (buzzwords feminists love to throw about as soon as a man is comfortable with who he is and who accepts the seemingly vast differences between both sexes), I’m just a man – and proud of it!

As men, I’m proud to say that we’re everything that you women are not, so get use to it and stop trying to manipulate us into something you want us to be (i.e., a hairless, effeminate, and walking credit card of a man, whose main job on weekends is to carry the many unnecessary bags of shopping that their female partner’s heart desires).

Now, where was I…In this current climate of the emasculation of men under the guise of feminism, let me now celebrate being a male in the 21st century by sharing an inspirational list of the 100 Greatest Men of All Time (and no – that pansy, David Beckham, is definitely not on this particular top 100 list)

Family and Friends are the Best Presents Money Can Never Buy

What's more important than a wrapped present?

What heavenly delights awaits us this Christmas?  A King’s feast?  An abundance of expensive gifts?  A chance to drink as much as what’s contained in a brewery?  A chance to become the Karaoke King, or Queen, by participating in a good old sing-song despite having a voice like a bullfrog?  Or maybe a time for joyful celebration amidst heated arguments over who gets the TV remote?

I say thee nay!  Be wise, my friend and see Christmas for what it really is – which should be spent sharing precious time with friends and family.

Christmas should not be spent just on getting stressed and relinquishing the little money we have on meaningless stuff just to satisfy our guilty conscience. Read more…
